August is National Black Business Month! Black Business Month reminds us just how important economic equity is for all of us. Individual actions can, collectively, have an enormous impact–not just on individual businesses, but on community development, the racial wealth gap, and our long-term economic stability.
All month, we at Ebony Marketing Systems shared our favorite Black-Owned businesses:
D’IYANU
👉🏿 The loose translation of D’IYANU is “of or from [something] wonderful,” reminding us that everyone is uniquely and wonderfully made and should dress to reflect that truth. The “D” means “of” or “from” in French, while “IYANU” means “miracle” or “wonderful” in the Nigerian language, Yoruba. The blending of the two languages also signifies the blending of the two cultures which define the brand: African and European.
“One of our long-term visions is to bring positive change to Africa’s textile industry. D’IYANU is building partnerships with African-owned fabric and garment manufacturers to develop exclusive prints and clothing. My goal is to have a real, and lasting influence back home by producing primarily in Africa.”

BLK & Bold
👉🏿 Co-founders, Pernell & Rod created this company with the desire to unite coffee and tea lovers worldwide through a common interest of investing in community, specifically for the youth. Pernell & Rod believe that if children are the future, then they should be equipped with resources to manifest their potential.
With that philosophy, BLK & Bold pledges 5% of its gross profits (revenue) to nonprofit organizations across America that are aligned to pouring into children the confidence, exposure, and guidance for them to be the best version of themselves.
